A software engineer, mechanical engineer, finance guru, real-estate developer, founder of a microbrand watch company, and a serial Entrepreneur sounds like a diverse gathering of professionals at a party. However, we are talking about one man, Christian Champion, currently the owner operator of Ocean Crawler, a microbrand watch company specializing in sturdy, robust professional dive watches.
Born in Lima, Peru, and later moving to England at just 17 years old to study engineering and software development, it was these early days that Christian developed a hunger for knowledge and aspiration for entrepreneurship. With this hunger Christian pursued studies in microelectronics, software engineering, mechanical engineering, software development and finance, giving him the perfect recipe of technical and business expertise.
Before becoming one of the most well known microbrands in the US, Christian started a successful career in software and technology. In the early 2000s he founded PAL Solutions, a software company focused on online security and monitoring. After selling that business, Christian migrated to Brazil where he began his journey in real-estate development of oceanfront condominiums. After conquering real-estate, he shifted back into ventures in consulting and technology.
While becoming very successful at an early age, there was still something missing. Christian was fascinated by mechanical watches and a long time watch collector and diving enthusiast. He saw an opportunity to create his own professional-grade dive watches aimed at collectors and enthusiasts who wanted distinctive, bold, and durable designs at a fraction of the cost of luxury / mainstream brands. So in 2017, Christian founded Ocean Crawler with his first release of the Champion Diver originally offered in 1000ft water resistance, Swiss Selitta automatic movement in a cushion style dive case, and strong lume in the style of a rugged tool watch. The Champion Diver was later offered in special edition releases, like the full-lumed Fordite Dials and 2000ft water resistance.
Ocean Crawler quickly became well known in the microbrand community for high quality, sturdily built, durable diver watch designs with Swiss automatic movements, high water resistance ratings, and limited-production releases.
Along with being CEO and founder of Ocean Crawler, Christian has also been involved in his other business ventures including technology consulting, cybersecurity, and reputation management companies. Most would describe him as a pragmatic entrepreneur with a strong eye for product design and detail. All before the age of 40, making Christian one of the most impressive microbrand owners in the industry. On top of all these achievements, Christian is also one of the friendliest and most approachable brand owners in an industry packed full of friendly and kind owners.
